Rachel Dicker took her first trip to China in 1979 and has been traveling ever since. After spending a year abroad in both high school (Germany) and college (Spain) she decided she wanted to make a career out of travel.

In 1997 she went to work for TCS Expeditions, a tour operator specializing in private jet travel. In 1999 she moved to Shanghai, China for her husband’s job and continued on at TCS working as an Assistant Expedition Leader on their trips around the world. After taking a few years off to have children, she started doing advance work Starquest Expeditions, a position that did not require so many days away from home.

Rachel Dicker quoteStarting a family overseas led to a whole new skill set: the art of international travel with children. China was the perfect base from which to explore other far-flung Asian destinations including Mongolia, Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, Japan, Korea and the Philippines.

In 2007 her experience working for a luxury tour operator came together with her experience travelling with her own children when she started planning trips to China and other parts of Asia for families. Upon her return to the United States in 2011 she started Lantern Travel specializing in family-oriented trips to Asia.

Rachel makes a great travel consultant because she is passionate about travel. She has traveled the globe and knows what it takes to create a great trip. It not only takes great care and planning to make sure all the components of a trip are in place, but also to ensure the pace of the trip is enjoyable and the included sights are relevant to each client. There is no one-size-fits all when it comes to travel and it takes a great travel planner to know that.

Rachel currently lives in Austin, TX with her very supportive husband, cheeky 13-year-old boy and energetic 10-year-old girl.
